In this coming of age story, Tony Piccinin and Amy Kashiwagi fall in love at a high school Hallowe’en Dance in 1941. He’s Italian; she’s Japanese. After Japan attacks Pearl Harbor, Amy is incarcerated at Manzanar, an American concentration camp, and Tony serves in the Pacific.
